It’s a jungle out there with everybody competing for attention and trying to get their collateral noticed. This is why the print embellishment market is booming at the moment. From spot UV coating through to hot foiling, more and more printers and trade finishers are looking to invest in embellishment technology that will enable them, and their customers, to stand out from the crowd.
For example, research by the Foil & Specialty Effects Association in a study called Results of Impact of High Visibility Enhancements, concludes that there are overwhelming responses for what it calls First Fixation of foil stamped packaging. The authors explain, “The ability of a product to attract the shopper’s visual attention has a strong influence on a consumer’s decision to purchase.” The study found that foil can increase sales prices by 10 to 40 percent depending on the end product.
Historically designers have perceived these “CMYK+” finishes as being prohibitively expensive for many print projects but this is changing.
